I like the Colle-Zukertort System (1.d4 d5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.e3 e6 4.Bd3 c5 5.b3) because its peaceful appearance is very deceptive. White castles quickly, completes development with Ab2, Cbd2, everything very harmonious, but to the eyes of many people, probably including our future opponents, it seems harmless. After studying it for months, I’ve found interesting ideas for White against all of Black’s piece setups and I can confirm that it is far from harmless. Some lines are more aggressive, others more positional, but we always maintain a slight pressure, which is very annoying for Black. This, combined with the fact that our opponents usually don’t face it and won’t be as specialized as we are, makes it a very interesting weapon full of subtleties. Of course, Black’s deviations (for example, 3…c5 4.dxc5! instead of 3…e6) are also covered, leading us to very original positions that, as my friend, Romanian GM Mihail Marin, often says, are a “rain of points” for us.
